This software update program is for the customer-owned product listed above (the “affected product”), and is provided only on acceptance of the agreement listed below. By selecting “Accept” and clicking “Download”, you are held to have accepted the terms and conditions of the agreement. Be sure you understand the terms of the agreement before beginning download.

  • • This service supplies software that can be used to update the firmware for COOLPIX P1000 cameras to version 1.7. Before proceeding, check the camera firmware version. You will not need to download or install this update if the firmware listed above is already installed.
  • • This update includes all changes made in previous updates.
  • • A card reader and computer are required for the firmware update.
  • • Read the information below before proceeding.
Changes from Firmware Version 1.6 to 1.7
  • • Changed the default password displayed on the connection menu after all the camera's settings were reset.

Changes from Firmware Version 1.5 to 1.6
  • • Reinstated the following fix, which was introduced with firmware version 1.3 but omitted from versions 1.4 and later.
    • - Fixed an issue in which pictures shot using [Continuous H] or [Continuous L] with [3200] or [6400] selected for [ISO sensitivity] in modes P, S, A, and M were recorded at ISO 1600 instead of at the value shown in the shooting display.
Changes from Firmware Version 1.4 to 1.5
  • • Fixed the following issues:
    • - Horizontal lines would appear in pictures shot in [Continuous H] release mode using [Subject tracking].
    • - The order in which pictures were displayed in the SnapBridge [Download pictures] thumbnail list would sometimes change.
      Note: Update SnapBridge to version 2.8.3 or later.

  • • Fixed an issue that caused pairing between the camera and devices running the SnapBridge app under iOS 14 or iPadOS 14 to fail.

  • • Fixed an issue in which pictures shot using [Continuous H] or [Continuous L] with [3200] or [6400] selected for [ISO sensitivity] in modes P, S, A, and M were recorded at ISO 1600 instead of at the value shown in the shooting display.

  • • Fixed the following issue:
    • - When the battery was charged using the charging AC adapter, the charge lamp would not stop flashing when charging was complete.

Viewing the Camera Firmware Version
  1. Turn the camera on.
  2. Press the camera MENU button to display the menus.
  3. Press the multi selector left to display menu icons, then highlight [Set up] and press OK.
  4. Highlight [Firmware version] in the [Set up] menu and press OK to display the camera firmware version.
  5. Check the camera firmware version.
  6. Turn the camera off.

Updating the Camera Firmware
  1. Create a folder on the desktop and name it as “firmware”.
  2. Download “firmware.bin”.
  3. Copy “firmware.bin” to the “firmware” folder created in Step 1.
  4. Using a card slot or card reader, copy the “firmware” folder to a memory card that has been formatted in the camera.
    Note: Be sure to copy the “firmware” folder to the root (top-most) directory of the memory card. The camera will not recognize the new firmware if it is placed in a folder under the root directory.
  5. Insert the memory card into the camera and turn the camera on.
    Note: Be sure the card is not locked (write protected).
  6. Select [Firmware version] in the [Set up] menu and follow the on-screen instructions to complete the firmware update.
  7. Once the update is complete, turn the camera off and remove the memory card.
  8. Confirm that the firmware has been updated to the new version.

Note: Updates can be performed for you by a Nikon-authorized service representative.
